Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fender mat is a kind of super wear-resistant and high impact protection material specially designed for the contact surface of ships and docks. By absorbing the impact energy of the ship during berthing, it protects the fender body and dock structure, and reduces the wear of the ship shell. It is suitable for cruise ships, freighters, offshore platforms and other scenarios.

 

Core Features And Advantages

 

1. Extreme wear and impact resistance
• Wear resistance: The wear rate of UHMWPE is only 1/10 of that of rubber. ASTM D4060 test shows that the thickness loss after 100,000 times of continuous friction is < 0.5mm.
• Impact strength: notched impact strength ≥150 kJ/m² (ISO 179 standard), can withstand the berthing impact of 30,000-ton freighters.


2. Environmental adaptability
• Corrosion resistance: resistance to seawater, salt spray, oil and microbial attack, service life of more than 15 years (rubber fender is usually 5~8 years).
• Temperature resistance: -60℃ to +80℃ stable performance, no risk of low temperature embrittlement or high temperature softening.


3. Lightweight and easy maintenance
• Density: 0.93~0.94 g/cm³, the weight is only 1/7 of the steel fender, reducing the loading of the pier.
• Self-lubricity: friction coefficient 0.08~0.12 (ASTM D1894), reducing the friction noise and energy consumption between ship and fenders.


4. Safety and environmental protection
• Zero pollution: in line with IMO (International Maritime Organization) anti-pollution requirements, no heavy metals and harmful substances precipitation.
• Antistatic: Surface resistance < 10^ 6Ω (custom option) to avoid spark hazards.

Application Scenarios And Solutions

 

1. Large port fender system
• Problem: the traditional rubber fender is easy to age and crack, and frequent replacement affects the working efficiency.
• Solution: Use 50~80mm thick UHMWPE surface pad, fixed with steel frame, life increase more than 2 times.


2. LNG carrier berthing
• Problem: Low temperature causes rubber hardening failure, there is a risk of leakage.
• Solution: -160℃ low temperature resistant custom surface mat, certified by DNV-GL classification society


3. Floating platform at sea
• Problem: Fatigue of the fender structure caused by prolonged wave impact.
• Solution: Modular splicing design, support quick replacement of damaged units on site.

 

Installation And Maintenance

 

1. Installation method
• Bolt fixation: embedded 316L stainless steel bolt +UHMWPE gasket (anti-corrosion).
Card slot assembly: Suitable for tidal range dynamic fender system, allowing ±15° Angle adjustment.
